Common Brimstone
This is the Common Brimstone (Citroenvlinder; Zitronenfalter; Citron; Gonepteryx rhamni), females have a greenish tinge where the males are more a sulphur yellow.
Its wing shape is rather unique and is supposed to act as camouflage while resting and hibernating.
The Brimstone has a wide presence worldwide from Europe and Asia as far east as Mongolia, more southwards in North Africa.
It is one of the longest lived butterflies: up to 13 months.
A popular myth says it's this species that gave rise to the name "butter"fly (after the male's color)
