Bufo Bufo...

During a very warm hike through Kampina Nature Reserve, Netherlands on our mission of photographing the Little Blue Butterflies we came across this toad. As he blended in with the dirt road it was only in the last moment, thankfully, that we stopped just short of stepping on him.

Known as the Common toad, European toad or in Anglophone parts of Europe, simply the toad (Bufo bufo, from Latin bufo "toad"), he sat very patiently as we laid in the dirt taking his picture. And yes, we truly laid in the dirt mixed with our sweat, we were not pretty sights after this, but "Bufo" was well worth it!
