This is a Comma or Anglewings (Gehakkelde Aurelia; C-Falter; Robert-le-Diable; Polygonia c-album) with beautifully orangy colored upperparts and a cryptically brownish colored underside.

Those cryptical colors and the raggedly edged wings give the insect a good camouflage when it holds its wings closed, making it resemble a fallen leaf.

A view on the wings' undersides would also show the small whitish "C" shaped marking that gives this butterfly its name. With a wingspan of 45 mm (1.8 in) it is a rather large butterfly.
